Am 14. Juni wird das Orchesterstudio zu einem besonderen Klangraum: Studierende und Lehrende der Tokyo University of the Arts bringen die alte japanische Hofmusik Gagaku an unsere Hochschule – eine Musik, deren Wurzeln mehr als tausend Jahre zurückreichen und die bis heute in ihrer fremdartigen Schönheit, rituellen Ruhe und leuchtenden Klarheit fasziniert.
Gagaku bedeutet wörtlich „elegante Musik“. Die Musiker sitzen am Boden, die Gesten sind sparsam, fast zeremoniell. Ein einzelner Ton der shō, der japanischen Mundorgel, öffnet den Raum; Flöten, Doppelrohrblattinstrumente, Lauten, Zithern, Trommeln und Gongs treten hinzu. Es entsteht kein dramatischer Verlauf im westlichen Sinn, sondern ein schwebender Klangfluss aus Farbe, Atem, Stille und minimalen Verschiebungen.
Wer Gagaku zum ersten Mal hört, betritt ein anderes musikalisches Zeitmaß. Diese Musik eilt nicht, sie erklärt sich nicht, sie fordert keine schnelle Zustimmung. Sie lädt ein, die eigenen Hörgewohnheiten für einen Moment abzulegen und sich auf eine Kunst einzulassen, in der jeder Ton Raum bekommt. Gerade in unserer beschleunigten Gegenwart wirkt dieser Klang beinahe subversiv, als eine Einladung zu einer Präsenz der stillen Aufmerksamkeit. Dass eine Gagaku-Gruppe der Geidai in Hamburg zu Gast ist, ist eine seltene Gelegenheit. Die Tokyo University of the Arts ist die einzige staatliche Hochschule Japans, an der diese traditionelle Kunst in dieser Form ausgebildet wird. Dieser Abend ist eine Begegnung mit einer Musik, die zwischen Ritual, Erinnerung und Gegenwart steht. Es ist ein akustisches Fenster in eine andere ästhetische Welt.
